Heroes in a Half Shell
Paint [8/10]
Couldn’t really decide on this simply because the black and white variant really don’t have that much paint work per se as the white of the figure is completely moulded plastic. With the body being hard white plastic while the bandana’s and arm and leg pads/bands being softer pliable plastic. However the black paint lines which literally mimic the inking lines of a comic are very clean with no sops or bleeds lending to the illusion that these are literally black and white sketches which have jumped one dimension. None of the dreaded NECA paint app inconsistency.
Articulation [10/10]
This is as articulated as it can get. NECA didn’t really make ‘super articulated’ figures before 2011/12 but this one is as elaborate as it can be. Imagine McFarlane’s 10th Anniversary Spawn figure… these are as articulated as that. Yes you heard it right! Let me just list out the joints on the figure: Ball-and-socket head, Ball jointed neck, Ball jointed shoulders, Ball jointed hips
Swivel biceps, Pin elbows, Double-pin knees, abdominal hinge, Swivel waist, Ball jointed wrists, Hinge/rocker ankles. These are probably the most articulated Turtles ever made.
Accessories [6/10]
Pretty light here and you can’t really fault the makers for it, Leo gets his double katana, Don his staff, Raph’s sais and Mike’s nun chucks.
Overall [7/10]
Why you ask? Because of the age old NECA quality control issues regarding joints. Pre 2011 figures of NECA used to be plagued by issues like stuck joints, broken in package joints, missing pins of joints etc. And my Donatello came with a faulty joint in his upper thigh. Although I repaired it, the whole anxiety while trying to repair it at the risk of aggravating the damage acted as a real dampener to the initial euphoria and absolute joy I feel while unboxing and taking all the figures out of the package.
