Hilariously dirty: Oglaf

Oglaf is very unabashedly inclined towards the pornographic, but while the strips may be incredibly explicit at times, what one really appreciates in each of them is the sharp humor infused in even the most sexual situations. Cooper and Bayne have managed to create something which is a rare and unique blend of salaciousness and wit, and which can, if left unchecked, can go horribly wrong. Their artwork too does justice to the beautiful, lithe bodies (which are, more often than not, naked) as well as to the clumsier ones. They are incredibly brazen about their depictions of the sexual panels and often, leave very little to the imagination.

Oglaf

What is very noteworthy, though, is the fact that through its sexual content, Oglaf has managed to break free of the hetero-normative boundaries which this genre of content often gets caught within. Instead of making a big deal about the different sexual encounters amongst the different sexes, the story underplays the seriousness of the message with the humor and the overarching plotline. There are panels which subtly cover issues of misogyny, debates on feminism, the definition of masculinity, and sexual politics in general. However, Oglaf’s beauty lies in not taking itself too seriously. And in underplaying the message itself, Oglaf manages to send out a very strong message to those who bother to read into it. However, Oglaf also offers profound philosophy which is what its real charm lies in. It is deliciously dirty, and it excels in being exactly that.
