“I dont buy doubles… but when I did, it was only for this one” McFarlane Image 10th Anniversary : Spawn Review

Packaging: 10/10

Being my MOST sought after figure for years, this review will appear to be fanboy-ish and biased. After getting this, I was so overwheled that I procured ANOTHER of this before I could open it! I wanted to keep one in mint condition. And I’m usually against mint in card/box collecting! It looks beyond awesome in its clamshell packaging. Yes, it has twisty ties – lots of them, but for the way it secures the figure you can forgive the inconvenience they cause when unpacking the figure.

Sculpt: 10/10

First Appearance of Spawn, Todd McFarlane’s drawing reproduced uncannily in 3D, A Cape which is layers and layers (12 actually) and can make an imposing display, A Display Stand with a cross and a gargoyle to mimic spire of a church and real metal chains! How can you find fault with this!?

Paint: 10/10

You just need to see the look in its eye slits to see how multiple washes done carefully can literally bring an illusion of luminescence. The grey washes on the black bringing out the double tonal shading nature of a black costume printed in a comic book. Best bit is that the details in the costumes are actually sculpted on than just painted, thus increasing the longevity of the detail..

Articulation: 9.5/10

I love to bring this figure up in the articulation section as most of you have seen from my previous reviews. Simply because he is a demon when it comes to points of articulation. However why the 9.5? Okay, for one, I dont want to give him an overall full score and come off like a biased fan boy. Secondly, for ALL the articulation it has, they didnt give him a ball jointed shoulder! Ridiculous! He has a MASSIVE 32 points of articulation: ball jointed neck, hinge shoulders, unique rotating pectoral joints, cut biceps, peg elbows, cut forearms, peg wrists, ball-joint chest with ratcheting up/down motion, cut waist, ball jointed hips, cut thighs, double jointed knees, ball jointed ankles and hinge toes. Phew!

Accessories: 10/10

Pretty much the display stand which is a cross and gargoyle with pegs to not only let Spawn stand firmly on the top of the Gargoyle, but also to be perched atop the cross! Like I said, NOTHING you can find fault with in this figure!

Overall: 10/10

Yes, I had contemplated it like I mentioned before. But this figure deserves a full score. Do you even know how stingy I am? Yet , I own TWO of these! That too one mint in box. Alright I can sense some jealousy from the other side of the monitor already so I’ll sign off here.
